Safeguarding Children

We fully recognise the responsibility we have under section 175 of the Education Act 2002 to safeguard and promote the welfare of children in our setting. It is our aim to support and promote the five outcomes of Every Child Matters. The policy applies to all staff, students and volunteers.

  • promoting children’s right to be strong, resilient and listened to by creating an environment in our nursery that encourages children to develop a positive self image, which includes their heritage arising from their colour and ethnicity, their languages spoken at home, their religious beliefs, cultural traditions and home background
  • encouraging children to develop a sense of autonomy and independence
  • enabling children to have the self confidence and the vocabulary to resist inappropriate approaches;
  • helping children to establish and sustain satisfying relationships within their families, with peers, and with other adults
  • working with parents to build their understanding of, and commitment to the principles of safeguarding all our children.

All children must be safeguarded from harm and exploitation whatever their:

  • Race, religion, first language or ethnicity
  • Gender or sexuality
  • Age
  • Health, ill-health or disability
  • Location or placement (e.g. living alone in a hostel or residential unit, with their family or a foster family, as a tourist in an hotel etc)
  • Criminal or offensive behaviour
  • Wealth or lack of it and political or immigration status
